Irish Wheelchair Association supported by Athlone Access Awareness were present today at Golden Island Shopping Centre for IWA’s #Backin5 Parking Campaign.
This campaign was designed to help motorists realize how frustrating it can be when drivers park in Disabled Parking Bays without having the appropriate Parking Permit. We believe the campaign was a great success in helping drivers understand how aggravating and frustrating it is when normal parking spaces are taken up by Wheelchairs with the words back in 5 minutes written on the back of the chair.
A special thank you to Minister Boxer Moran TD for launching this campaign and for his strong advocacy for people with disabilities, Mayor Frankie Keena for his hands-on approach for the rights of people with disabilities, Cllr John Dolan for his continued support at local council and Cllr Ailish Mc Manus for her encouragement to both IWA and Athlone Access Awareness to keep going.
Last but not least, a very compassionate and passionate man, Pat O'Toole Manager of Golden Island Shopping Centre for all his kindness in allowing us to use the car park for this campaign.
Our motto was really practised today: “#Together We can help disable inequality”
