Back in 5 Parking Campaign

#Backin5 Parking Campaign

Irish Wheelchair Association Athlone in partnership with Athlone Access Awareness are working together to run a “Backin5” parking campaign at Golden Island Shopping Center car park Friday 3rd, August between 10 am - 12 noon.

The purpose of this campaign is to highlight the frustrations people with disabilities face every day when able-bodied people park their cars in wheelchair accessible spaces without a valid parking permit or reason to do so.

Regular car spaces at Golden Island Shopping Center will have wheelchairs parked in them with a note pinned to the back with messages such as “Be back in 5 minutes”/ “just gone to the bank,” or “just running in for a coffee”. These are throw away statements that people with disabilities encounter every day when people use accessible spaces that do not need to do so. More information to follow in the coming weeks.
